Amazon reveals HTC Windows Phone 8X market release date

The HTC Windows Phone 8X was announced at an HTC event last Wednesday, and now we have a date when you can expect to get your hands on one.

Amazon UK has the SIM-free variant up for pre-order, with an expected shipping date of November 8th. It can be had for the rather steep price of £531.43, or $863.
While this price – and the release date, for that matter – is not exactly official, a retailer as big as Amazon can't be far from the truth. Either way, we won't be seeing any Windows Phone 8 phones on the market until Microsoft officially releases the platform, expected in late October.
Meanwhile, Clove UK also have the 8X for a more reasonable £399 ($648). If you'd like to learn more about the HTC Windows Phone 8X, check out our hands on from the release event

WP8-powered HTC Windows Phone 8X goes official

HTC's event is underway and we just got to see the company's first two Windows Phone 8 handsets, with the HTC Windows Phone 8X being the flagship.
Unlike the Titan, the HTC Windows Phone 8X is rather compact with its 4.3" 720p screen. It measures 132.4 x 66.2 x 10.1mm and weighs 130g. The HTC Windows Phone 8X (now that's a mouthful) uses a polycarbonate unibody, similar to that of the One X.

Going back to the screen, it's a Super LCD 2 unit with Gorilla Glass 2 protection and it's laminated to reduce glare.
The HTC Windows Phone 8X is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset with two Krait cores clocked at 1.5GHz, Adreno 225 GPU and 1GB of RAM. It runs Microsoft's latest phone OS, Windows Phone 8 (as the name quite clearly indicates).
The camera on the back should be familiar to HTC users - 8MP BSI sensor, f/2.0 aperture and 28mm field of view (in 35mm terms). It contains a dedicated HTC ImageChip and can shoot 1080p video with stereo sound.

Nokia may file a lawsuit seeking a ban on HTC WP 8X

According to the latest online gossip, Nokia considers seeking ban for the upcoming HTC flagship –Windows Phone 8X. The Finns accuse HTC of copying the Lumia 820 front panel design for its Windows Phone 8X.
Nokia unveiled the Lumia 820 and 920 in the beginning of September. HTC announced its two WP-powered headsets two weeks later. Shortly after Nokia’s EVP of Sales and Marketing tweeted "It takes more than matching color to match the innovation of the Lumia 920." – aimed directly at HTC’s new phones.

The source says that Nokia is going to take serious actions against HTC and seek a ban on the Windows Phone 8 sales.
No matter what Nokia’s intentions are, both Nokia and HTC have huge support from Microsoft (and Qualcomm), and we bet the issue will be resolved without entering the court room. And even if it did, we doubt Nokia will end up victorious – it takes way more than two weeks to develop a smartphone and there's no way HTC managed to redesign the 8X in the short time between the Lumia 820 announcement and its own event.posted by 74news

Google Nexus 7 release date tipped as July 19th by retailer

uly 19th by retailerTweet0

Following last month's official unveiling, retailers have suggested a Nexus 7 UK release will take place on July 19th as shipping times are reduced
Ahead of the expected July 19th Nexus 7 UK release date, Google has reduced the expected shipping times on its recently unveiled 7-inch tablet.
Previously listed on the Google Play Store with a 2-3 week shipping expectation, Google is now alerting consumers making Nexus 7 pre-orders that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean brimmed device will hit their doorsteps within a 1-2 week period, a timeframe that would fit with the recently tipped July 19th expected arrival.
Having been officially unveiled during Google’s I/O developer’s conference late last month, retailer Currys has suggested the as yet unconfirmed Google Nexus 7 UK release date will see the Jelly Bean filled tablet launch on July 19th.

Whilst Google had previously suggested the 7-inch, Asus manufactured,Android 4.1 Jelly Bean tablet would land later this month, Currys last week became the first UK retail to hand the cut-priced iPad rival a potential release date with pre-orders now being taken on the 16GB tablet ahead of a claimed July 19th arrival.

Google Nexus 7 Features

A potential challenger to Apple’s strangle hold on the tablet market, the Google Nexus 7 is set to entice a new range of consumers to the tablet market with a Tegra 3 quad-core processor lining up alongside 1GB of RAM and a 1280 x 800p HD display to form a hugely impressive device.

Add to this a minimalist £159.99 price tag for the 8GB option, £199.99 for the 16GB model, and the Nexus 7 slots in as an Amazon Kindle Fire beater that thanks to its 10.4mm thick form factor, 1.2-megapixel inbuilt forward-facing camera and Wi-Fi connectivity option impresses on many fronts.

Are you tempted by the upcoming Google Nexus 7 tablet? Will you be looking to snap up the device following its potential July 19th release date? Let us know via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Apple patent hints at future iPhone using NFC and Passbook

Apple iPhone 5 picture concept
NFC is already available in the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Sony Xperia S but Apple could well be looking to integrate the feature on future iPhones

Apple have just been granted a patent which could see future iPhones or even the iPhone 5 appear with NFC technology allowing users to check-in to airport terminals using just their smartphones.
The patent shows that Apple could well be looking to expand on its Passbook app, a new feature which was recently announced to be launching alongsideiOS 6.
Passbook is at present more a hub containing travel information and visual ticket codes letting you gain access to train tickets, live entertainment events and also use store cards.
The acquisition of an NFC-related patent will naturally prompt suggestions that Apple could well be releasing the upcoming iPhone 5 with NFC or indeed be looking at placing the tech on their future devices.

Hands on: Nokia 808 Pureview review

Hands on: Nokia 808 Pureview review
Hands on with the Nokia 808 Pureview
The Nokia 808 Pureview wasn't meant to be a surprise, but with a 41MP camera and 1080p video recording, it certainly seems to have turned out that way.
The phone is running Symbian Belle, and will probably be one of, if not the, last top end Symbian device to hit the market before all the cool technology gets chucked into Windows Phones
We spent some time with the large-sensored monster, and it certainly is a beast when it comes to picture taking. We're going to spend a lot of time looking at the camera on this new top-end cameraphone, but let's take a quick look at the software underneath.
Nokia 808 pureview
See what the monumental 41MP camera in capable of in our first look video at MWC 2012:
We're looking at the end of Symbian – there's no idea whether it's going to continue beyond Belle, but at least it's a half decent OS these days (although sadly shows how good the N8 could have been a couple of years ago.)
Nokia 808 pureview
The interface is more finger friendly than before, responding more quickly to swipes under the finger on the home screens (although not as fast as the likes of top end Android phones or the iPhone 4S).
Nokia 808 pureview
The build of the phone isn't that impressive if we're honest – there's a hark back to the likes of the Nokia N97 in the plastic build of the case, and the plastic hard keys on the front are a little cheap-feeling, which we don't expect this phone to be.
Nokia 808 pureview
However, let's talk about the real USP here: the camera. And it, even at this early stage, looks to be pretty darn good.
Nokia 808 pureview
The headline feature is obviously the 41MP camera, and although you can't access all those megapixels, you can take 34MP photos that you can zoom into to dizzying levels.
Nokia 808 pureview
There are a decent range of settings you can play with as well, with things like ISO levels up to 1600 making it a very much a replacement for a normal compact camera.
Nokia 808 pureview
The picture quality is fantastic as well, with zooming in showing a decent level of detail with very little in the way of noise or pixellation.
Nokia 808 pureview
Nokia 808 pureview
It seems there are two camera modes on offer with the Nokia 808 Pureview, with the 'full resolution' setting letting you shoot at 34MP in 16:9 and 4:3 mode. You can also jump into Pureview mode as well, which limits you to 8MP shots but chucks in a whole load more information into each pic to make it easier for you to blow up your candid snaps.

Early verdict

Overall, the Nokia 808 Pureview is pretty much the phone Nokia wanted to make – a bog standard Symbian phone that won't set any pulses racing until its flipped over and the full might of the camera is realised.
It's the Nokia N8 made a lot more acceptable to the average consumer that loves to take pictures on the go – but we're more looking forward to seeing similar things on Windows Phones rather than lauding this as the ultimate cameraphone just yet.

The 41MP mobile snapper gets priced too

Nokia 808 Pureview release date announced
Are you tempted?
The Nokia 808 Pureview UK release date and price has been revealed online, although it is yet to be confirmed by Nokia.
The 808 Pureview stunned MWC 2012 when Nokia unveiled the monster 41MP camera which it had squeezed into the Symbian-toting handset.
Online retailer Unlocked Mobiles outed the Nokia 808 Pureview release date and price after making the phone available for pre-order on its website.
